“The Lion King” is proving its mettle at the Pakistani box office. Grossing 5 crore in its opening weekend, it is now inches away from 10 crore.
The live action adaptation of the 1994 animated classic has cashed in on nostalgia and brought gold back to the Pride Lands. As per estimates by Entertainment Pakistan, the film made 8.75 crore in its first week, thrashing its competition, and has made 1 crore on its second Friday. That brings its total to 9.75 crores. Film will cross 10 crore milestone today.
Will the Lion King be able to survive beyond the nostalgia money that it brought in? Right now 12 crores looks easy; for that matter so does 15 crores. However, crawling to 20 crores at the Pakistani box office might be a task not even Simba is cut out for.
