Yasir Hussain, Faizan Sheikh and Anzela Abbasi to star in con-thriller ‘Guru Chaila’

The star lineup of the upcoming film ‘Guru Chaila’ has been officially revealed and let’s just say it gives us much to look forward to. Playing the titular roles will be Yasir Hussain and Faizan Sheikh, whereas Anzela Abbasi is said to be the female lead. Yasir Hussain is already a household name courtesy of his performances in Karachi Se Lahore, Lahore Se Aagey and Jhooti while Faizan Sheikh has been steadily rising on the star-meter courtesy prominent roles in Heer Maan Ja, Maalik and many television serials. Their combination is the kind that would lend pizzazz to any film, and with our curiosity piqued by the film’s unique title, we got in touch with the stars to learn more about the promising film.

“The film is basically the story of a con-artiste, with my character being that of the guru and Faizan playing the chaila,” revealed Yasir Hussain when queried about the movie’s somewhat unusual title and his character, further adding: “I typically like to essay roles that I have not played before, where I get the chance to do something different, and that is what Guru Chaila’s script offered me. It’s a pretty meaty character that I am looking forward to.”

Faizan Sheikh was no less thrilled about the project. “The script is well written and has much dynamism — plain and bland scripts are no fun,” he opined, while maintaining that the film is “rather out of the box” and offered him much by way of the unique manner in his character was penned and visualized for the screen. “I liked the look and feel of my character, and the film should have the audience on the edge of their seats.”

Guru Chaila is written and directed by Abu Aleeha, who was last seen on the big screen with indie features Kataksha and Tevar and is being produced by SR Productions. The film will mark the silver screen debut of Shamoon Abbasi and Javeria Abbasi’s daughter Anzela Abbasi and is described by its cast as an edge of the seat thriller that will also be addressing certain social issues. And in what will surely be an encouraging development for local filmmakers, the movie is expected to be released on the OTT platform Mufe Pakistan, which signals the much needed foray of OTT platforms into distribution and streaming of local film and drama productions. It is set to go on floors this week, with the production expected to wrap up before summer.
