Iftikhar Thakur and Nasir Chinyoti’s ‘Chal Mera Putt 2’ is a worldwide blockbuster

Previously, we had shared the news with you about Lahore based comedians Iftikhar Thakur, Nasir Chinyoti, Akram Udas, and Ruby Anam making waves in the follow-up to the super successful ‘Chal Mera Putt,’ an Indian Punjabi film that was a box office smash when released in 2019. The sequel, titled ‘Chal Mera Putt 2,’ was scheduled for release in March this year but was pulled from the theaters only after only a few days of release due to the Covid pandemic. The film was re-released a few weeks back across the border to a fantastic response and is all set to gross nearly 40 crores (in Pakistani rupees) in that market alone.

Globally, the film is expected to touch the $4 million mark and has already emerged to be the highest grossing Punjabi film ever. Much of this will be due to its record-busting run in Canada, home to a large Punjabi diaspora, where it has grossed nearly $2 million. The film has also raked in good numbers in the UK and US markets, and its successful run in its home market will just be the icing on the cake.

According to reports, the makers of the film were in talks with Pakistani censors regarding its screening in Pakistan, however, theaters in the country remain closed and as such, any chances for its release in the near future remain slim. However, it is expected to be available on the streaming platform Amazon Prime shortly, where fans of Pakistan’s popular comedians can watch it online.

The box office smashing success of CMP2 further boosts the chances of a third installment, which fans of the series will be eagerly waiting for. The film is directed by Janjot Singh and also co-stars Amrinder Gill, Simi Chahal, and Garry Sandhu.
