“The Legend of Maula Jatt” Completes Successful 10 Weeks in Cinemas

The Bilal Lashari’s magnum opus has been a rage at box office, in Pakistan as well as in overseas markets, since its release. While the film is almost exhausted in overseas markets after making historic benchmarks and minting more than 6 Million USD, it’s still going strong in the domestic box office. On Thursday, the film completed 10 weeks in theatres, something very rare in modern day business where even successful films are out of theatres after four or five weeks. Let’s have a look at film’s 10 week journey at Pakistani box office.

The Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi starrer launched in Pakistani cinemas on October 13. The film managed to rake in 20.3 crore PKR in first week despite not releasing on major cinema chains like Cinepax, Cinestar and Nueplex cinemas. On second week it showed a drop of just 19% and collected a whooping 16.46 crore PKR. On third week, the film got released on all the cinema chains nationwide and due that it raked in numbers similar to second week by minting 16.26 crore PKR.

On fourth week again the film showed a drop of mere 13% and collected 14.15 crore PKR. Film had its first major drop of 42% on fifth week as it collected 8.31 crore PKR, the first time since its release when it grossed less than two digits in a week. But the film held strong again on sixth week with a drop of less than 14% by collecting 7.2 crore PKR.

The next big drop was on seventh week when film collected 4.79 crore PKR, collecting for the first time less than 5 crore mark, with a drop of 34%. The Punjabi action saga then went on to gross 3.84 crore PKR, 3.17 crore PKR and 2.06 crore PKR during its eighth, ninth and tenth week, respectively.

The film has so far raked in a total of 96.54 crore PKR from Pakistani box office in ten weeks. It now just needs less than 3.5 crore PKR to hit the historic milestone of 100 crore in Pakistan and with Christmas and winter holidays already here, the film might achieve this target sooner than expected.
