Umro Ayyar (Trailer Review): The Next Big Blockbuster?

The official trailer for ‘Umro Ayyar: A New Beginning’ is finally out and it features black magic, jinns, and of course, Ayyari.

The trailer features a group of “Ayyars” or tricksters fighting against the army of “Laqqa”, played by Faran Tahir, a magician who wants to use the power of Jinns to exert control over the world. Sana stars as a powerful sorceress in his service.

Usman Mukhtar stars as Amar, a science professor who discovers he is the descendant of Umro Ayyar himself, destined to stop Laqqa. Ali Kazmi and Sanam Saeed star as the main Ayyars who take him in and Manzar Sehbai stars as the wise old Ayyar mentor.

The trailer shows off several action sequences, a huge climactic battle, and several groundbreaking special effects for Pakistani cinema.

‘Umro Ayyar: A New Beginning’ takes all of its major beats from the twin Persian epics “Hamza Nama” and “Tilism e Hoshruba”.

The antagonist of “Tilism e Hoshruba” is a sorcerer named Laqqa Baakhtar who fashions himself a god. Koh e Qaaf or the Caucasus Mountains mentioned in the trailer are known for the presence of Jinns in the “Hamza Nama”. And of course, “Tilisms” or spells are a dime a dozen in the book series.

Starring Usman Mukhtar, Sanam Saeed, Ali Kazmi, Faran Tahir, Sana, Adnan Siddiqui and Hamza Ali Abbasi, the film will hit theaters on Eid Ul Azha 2024.
