After garnering a steady and progressive acceptance at local ground, Pakistani cinema gradually started swarming international arenas in the successful year of 2018. Locally made films are being showered with accolades at myriad film festivals across the planet.
One such addition to the list is the prestigious Jaipur international film festival (JIFF) which is supposed to be held in Jaipur, India from 18th to 22nd January, 2019. The festival has been a platform to scores of filmmakers and silver screen aficionados to experience cinematic creations from across the world. The festival has been getting bigger and bigger with each passing year.
2019 edition of JIFF however is special for Pakistani cinema as our very own Filmwala Pictures’s film has bagged a nomination in a crucial category. Fizza Ali Meerza and Nabeel Qureshi’s “Load Wedding” has managed to make it to the nomination list in the category of “Best Feature fiction”. Indeed a chance for Pakistani cinema to be noticed at a bigger platform. Being a relatable and contemporary story set in the social canvas of Pakistan (and hence south Asia), the film could resonate well with viewers as well as the Jury at JIFF.
“Load Wedding” however isn’t the only film making it to the nominations lists from Pakistan. There are a handful of Projects like “Indus blues” (Documentary feature), “Dia” (Short feature) and “River in the Dessert” (short feature) grabbing the selectors attention this year.
Indeed such endeavors could herald a wider knowledge and acceptance of Pakistani film content in India and could possibly open the doors for mass level release of our films in our neighbouring country.
