Pakistani Eid Releases Continue to Enthrall UK Audience in the Second Week, Record Solid Figures

The Pakistani Eid-ul-Azha released continued to perform well at the UK box-office during the second week. Six Sigma/ARY Films’ Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 grossed £58,845 (0.94cr), bringing its total to £337,875 (Rs.5.41cr), which is still about £100,000 short of the 2016 hit Janaan. The movie’s solid run in the UK market, and generally overseas, has caught many in the trade by surprise as its prequel grossed about £171,000 in 2015. Factors including Humayun Saeed’s reputation to star in quality productions as well as successful run of JPNA on satellite and digital platforms have contributed to the movie’s success.

M&D Productions’ Parwaaz Hai Junoon (PHJ) grossed a reasonable £21,530 (0.35cr) during the same timeframe in UK. The movie has grossed a total of £93,335 (Rs. 1.5cr) in the market and will contribute towards building Hamza Ali Abbasi and Hania Amir’s fan-base.

Filmwala’s Load Wedding is now nearing the end of its run in the UK market and is likely to close under the £90,000 mark. The movie has recorded collections of £9,000 in the second week and its current total stands at £77,130 (Rs.1.23cr).

Taken together, by the end of their run, the Pakistan Eid trio will have collected over £500,000 — an excellent figure, indicating increasing acceptance and popularity of the Pakistan cinema brand in one of the key overseas market.
