Showbiz personalities have often been vocal about how their work is neglected by the federal government, and how like other professions, their services for the country too need to be recognized with civil awards such as Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance and Sitara-e-Imtiaz. These awards are given by the President annualy on Pakistan day, 23rd March.
Well, it looks like this year the new government in Islamabad has decided to show our celebrities that along with other professions and disciplines that are routinely honored, performing arts, especially film, shall not be ignored.
Three actresses, one from each decade since the 80s, has been chosen to be recognized for their excellence in performing in films. The three ladies are Mehwish Hayat, Babra Sharif and Reema Khan.
Mehwish Hayat rose to fame with Jawani Phir Nahi Aani and then went on to star in back to back hits, culminating with last year’s Load Wedding. The Actor in Law actress will be awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. Meanwhile Babra Sharif was the leading heroine during the 80s and prior to new age Pakistani cinema was the last known consummate performer. Babra will receive the prestigious Sitar-e-Imtiaz. The third lady on list Reema Khan caught the country’s attention with Bulandi in 1990 and then starred in several successful Punjabi and Urdu movies throughout the 90s. She will be awarded with Pride of Performance.
Writer Nasir Adeeb of Maula Jatt fame will also receive the Pride of Performance. Musicians Sajjad Ali and Ataullah EsaKhelvi will be awarded with Sitara-e-Imtiaz.
