The hit “Parchi” duo of Ali Rehman Khan and Hareem Farooq is back in IRK and Arif Lakhani films’ latest production “Heer Maan Ja”. Anticipation for the film’s teaser had been building for several weeks with the film’s two publicity promos arousing audience curiosity, and viewers finally got to take a peek today.
The film is billed as a “Love Story with a Past” from which we conjecture that the characters played by Hareem Farooq and Ali Rehman will be sharing some history, likely a not so pleasant one. Throughout the teaser, the two are shown sharing sometimes awkward ad occasionally slapstick situations that promise plenty of material for laughter. The ensemble cast stars Mojiz Hasan as a UK returned software engineer and Faizan Sheikh as the ghunda like villain. While it is difficult to gauge the story, we can say for certain it involves the film’s Heer (Hareem Farooq) entangled in some personal situation that requires her to seek Ali Rehman’s help. Thrown in for a good measure are high speed chases, elaborately choreographed bhangra and romantic numbers (credit: Osman Khalid Butt) as well as crazy situations that promise some very in-your-face comedy.
The teaser is also noticeable for the amount of cameos – we spotted Amina Sheikh, Ahmed Ali Akbar, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Zara Sheikh and Ali Kazmi. We are certain there will be more! Technically speaking, the photography, set design and overall production looks quite slick as Rana Kamran is brought back to take care of the frames whereas Bilal Choudhrie handles the production design.
In short, the film’s teaser balances the right amount of comedy, action and thrills with some foot-tapping bhangra music that ensures that the movie will build some pre-release buzz at the mass centers since it caters to exactly the kind of entertainment that is sought by the public on Eid. The film will be Azfar Jafri’s fifth venture, and with his track record the expectations will be high for a solid all rounded entertainer, which is what the teaser promises.
The teaser surely builds our curiosity for the movie’s trailer. We’re keeping our fingers crossed! Till then, enjoy this….
“Heer Maan Ja” will release this year in cinemas on Eidul-Azha.
