Dum Mastam’s trailer is finally out and it’s filled with firecracker moments. It seems like Pakistani cinema will be getting a bubbly romantic comedy this time. The theme, as one can surmise from the title as well, is around music and dance and the rhythm of life.
Adnan Siddiqui’s production debut in films seems like a very different offering to what the new wave of Pakistani cinema has yet offered. We haven’t really gotten a traditional boy meets girl romantic comedy yet. Yes, there have been love stories with a comedic pitch, but they usually center on a journey or a crime caper of sorts. ‘Dum Mastam’ seems to tick all the boxes when it comes to traditional romantic comedies.
Imran Ashraf and Amar Khan, the leads of the film look plenty confident and own the screen effortlessly in the trailer. Imran Ashraf who is known to audiences as Bhola from “Ranjha Ranjha Kardi” and Amar Khan who played Neelofar in “Belapur Ki Daayan”, both have exhibited crackling chemistry with each other. Their riffing off each other and ease in each other’s company on screen signals that if nothing else, this may be a pair to remember.
The trailer also shows off some of the film’s music, which should be one of its strongest aspects. If the trailer is anything to go by, we should expect equal parts pop and traditional folk numbers.
Finally, there are also some action sequences in the movie, but one hopes that the makers don’t rely on them too much. Overall, ‘Dum Mastam’ seems like it’s going to be a fun ride. Catch it in theaters this Eid Ul Fitr.
