‘Mann Jogi’ (Review): Chalking Up A Sure Shot Winner!

Kashif Nisar has proved his supremacy over his craft with several hits like ‘Dar Si Jaati Hai Sila’, ‘Ranjha Ranjha Kardi’, ‘Raqeeb Se’, and ‘Kabli Pulao’. The director ropes in Bilal Abbas Khan, Sabeena Farooq and Mirza Gohar Rasheed for his next ‘Mann Jogi’. Produced by the visionary Sultana Siddique, the drama serial is written by Zafar Mairaj. With an interesting trio, and intriguing plotline, let’s see what ‘Mann Jogi’ has in the offering.

‘Mann Jogi’: The Plotline

‘Mann Jogi’ starts with a quick introduction of the protagonist. Ibrahim (Bilal Abbas Khan) is an earthquake survivor raised by the Masjid’s Imam (Adnan Shah Tipu). The latter has convinced him for a Nikah Halala. All is being done as Shabbir (Gohar Rasheed) has divorced his wife Aliya (Sabeena Farooq) and wants to remarry her.

The narrative moves back and forth, and we get to know the root cause. Shabbir has no control over his anger and loses his cool over petty things. As a politician, he locks horns with people more powerful than him. He comes across a video of his rival politician which accidentally features Aliya. Shabbir is furious to see her and divorces her immediately.

Spectacular Beginning

The plot by Mairaj is super intriguing, we get to see ample dramatic, thrilling and massy moments. Kashif Nisar handles the material like a pro, he keeps the proceedings watertight and simple to understand. The subject is sensitive yet handled in a mainstream manner. Some of the sequences stand out in particular. For instance, Aliya looking at Shabbir’s mother (Asma Abbas) when she dresses her up for the Nikah Halala. Shabbir traumatizing Aliya gives goosebumps. Another when Aliya asks Ibrahim to close the door and tries to commit suicide. Every single scene leaves a lasting impact and takes the narrative forward.

Terrific Trio

‘Mann Jogi’ is embellished with strong performances. Bilal Abbas Khan continues his top form. One wonders how he manages to hit the bull’s eye every time by picking meaty and versatile parts. Sabeena Farooq teams up with Nisar after the mega-hit ‘Kabli Pulao‘. She understands the part well and performs organically. Gohar Rasheed takes the proceedings to another level with his fierce avatar. The trio does a commendable job, it is difficult to decide who took the cake. Asma Abbas makes her presence felt. Adnan Shah Tipu is effective.

Looking Forward

Bilal, Sabeena and Gohar are the three main pillars of the enterprise. The fourth is the impeccable brilliance of Nisar. The first episode takes a spectacular start and we are eager to see the journey of Ibrahim and Aliya unfold. It would be great if ‘Mann Jogi’ aired twice a week, but sadly that isn’t the case.
