Review: ‘Duniyapur’ Satisfies Both Dramatic & Cinematic Cravings!

Ever since its launch Green Entertainment has raised the bar of TV content in Pakistan. With unique and diverse genres like ‘Kabli Pulao’, ‘Jeevan Nagar’, ‘Pagal Khana’ and ‘Gentleman’, the channel is creating a league of its own. Green Entertainment takes a giant leap and produces Pakistan’s most expensive drama serial ‘Duniyapur’. Written by Radain Shah and directed by Shahid Shafaat, ‘Duniyapur’ stars Sami Khan, Naumaan Ijaz, Khushhal Khan, Ramsha Khan and Menzar Sehbai in principal roles.

‘DuniyaPur’: The Plot

‘DuniyaPur’ is the story of two families: the Adams and the Nawabs, headed by Nauroz Adam (Naumaan Ijaz) and Nawab Dilawaiz (Manzar Sehbai), respectively. Both let go of no opportunity to kill each other due to an old rivalry. The land of ‘DuniyaPur’ is lawless, even the newly posted police officer Meer Hassan (Sami Khan) is treated like an animal as soon as he is posted in the vicinity. One day Adam’s elder son Nayyab (Ali Raza) attacks Nawab’s place and gets caught. Dilawaiz is ready to leave Nayyab only if Nauroz hands over the charge of ‘Dunyapur’ to him along with his daughter whom he wants to marry.

Ana Nawab (Ramsha Khan) and Shameer (Khushhal Khan) are young members of the Nawab and Adam families. They are sick and tired of DuniyaPur’s ruthlessness and want to run away from it. But destiny has some other plans for them.

What Makes ‘DuniyaPur’ A Magnificent Watch?

One key element of a good thriller is keeping the viewers hooked from the word ‘go,’ and ‘DuniyaPur’ nails this aspect to the maximum. The canvas here is quite huge for storytelling, and both Shah and Shafaat have smartly turned it into their biggest strength. First, full marks to Green’s vision for attempting something like this. And to succeed in it with flying colors is another victory. It’s a visual masterpiece that captures the glory of ‘DuniyaPur’ in its full essence.

Wait…There’s More

‘DuniyaPur’ is like watching a movie or an OTT show with twists and turns at regular intervals. One can’t predict what will happen next. The narrative is electrifying and gets addictive. The scene when Nayaab attacks Nawab’s place is shot brilliantly. Shamir’s race sequence is another that shines. There isn’t a moment that feels forced. What works most in favour of ‘DuniyaPur’ is the combination of well-written twisted characters and the massive production value.

The Leads And The Second Fiddles Equally Shine Bright

Nauman Ijaz as Nauroz Adam is in terrific form. Manzar Sehbai gets as real as he can. Ramsha Khan surprises with a top-notch performance. There’s a lot more to her character when she will lock horns with Shamir in the upcoming episodes. Khusshal Khan is a refreshing addition to the industry and it’s a treat to watch his electrifying avatar. Sami Khan’s act is a bit restricted till now.

Interestingly the support cast of ‘DuniyaPur’ is equally good. Ali Raza puts up a great act. Hassan Niazi plays a crucial part and does very well. Yousuf Basheer Qureshi is excellent. The girl who plays Shahmeer’s sister is magnificent. Zaib Rehman is highly convincing with her aura and mannerisms.

We Are All For It

To sum it up, ‘DuniyaPur’ satisfies both dramatic and cinematic cravings. The smartly packaged episodes, visual language, sleek editing, mesmerizing performances, and a cliffhanger conclusion to every episode leave viewers asking for more.
