“The Legend of Maula Jatt” may very well be the most hyped film of all time in Pakistan, but it’s also one of the most controversial films in recent memory.
After some rumors making rounds in trade circles, we at PakistaniCinema have confirmed from producer of the film, Ammara Hikmat that the film’s release is being postponed and it will no longer be hitting theaters on Eid-ul-Fitr.
The reasons for the postponement are twofold. To begin with, an Eid-ul-Fitr release would clash with Salman Khan starrer ‘Bharat’ and would divide audiences in overseas. Hence, the full box office potential of “The Legend of Maula Jatt” (TLMJ) would be damped. Avoiding such a clash would be a better business decision for both local and international markets.
Sources close to PakistaniCinema have revealed that an Eid-u-Azha release is in the pipeline. This may prove disastrous because it will clash with two other major releases, “Heer Maan Ja”, and “Parey Hut Love”.
The second reason for postponement is something you’d be familiar with if you’d been following TLMJ in the news at all. The legal battle with Bahoo Films is still raging on and a hearing is scheduled for April 25th, 2019. The court’s final decision is anticipated as it will finally put this matter to rest. The decision may affect the release schedule of the film.
Whenever the release may be, it would be nice to have a tentative date for perhaps the biggest blockbuster Pakistan has ever seen.
