Kahay Dil Jidher Trailer

Junaid Khan and Mansha Pasha Impress in Trailer of Masala-Crime Drama ‘Kahay Dil Jidhar’

What happens when the idealistic ambitions with which one sets out to change the world crash against the harsh, bitter realities? Apparently, this age-old conflict is what drives the narrative of upcoming movie ‘Kahay Dil Jidhar,’ the trailer of which was recently unveiled.

The nearly three-minute clip shows the story’s two protagonists, Mansha Pasha and Junaid Khan in their badass avatars of a hard-hitting journalist and a tough cop, respectively. A montage of sequences depicting law enforcement’s battle against the drug mafia plays out against a voiceover narrating that the hard choices the film’s characters have made in dealing with the not-so-black-and-white realities of life — leaving them with quite a bit of baggage to carry. What follows is a quick blitz of more character introductions: Kamran Bari plays a music performer while starlet Roma Michael seems to up the film’s glam quotient. Sajid Hassan and Rashid Khwaja have been cast in negative roles and they will seemingly be at odds with Junaid Khan, with one of them likely playing a drug kingpin.

Peppered throughout the trailer are brief flashes of the entire narco ecosystem i.e. the whole cycle of transportation, supply to the consumption of illicit drugs — and that includes the dirty cops which enable this system. While the war on drugs is quite likely to be one of the foci of the film’s plot, it is set against the film’s larger canvas of a coming-of-age drama revolving around its four main protagonists. The trailer also hints at a tragic turn of events as we see the main characters taking a somber road trip, with suitably melancholic music playing in the backdrop.

From the looks of it, the film’s storyline weaves together quite a few threads, one of them being the all-important issue of substance abuse. We live next door to the world’s largest supplier of opium, and drug abuse is one of the harsh realities that many Pakistanis have to deal with. Therefore the film’s narrative is rather on point in dealing with an issue that is relevant and topical.

Coming to the actors, both Junaid Khan and Mansha Pasha seem to have been aptly cast for their tough-talking roles. Their characters will go through the arc of personal conflict and self-discovery, which will make watching this film worthwhile. The two newbies — Kamran Bari and Roma Michael, look promising too. Bari has also handled the production and writing aspects of the film.

‘Kahay Dil Jidhar’ is scheduled for release on 17th December 2021. Watch the trailer and let us know what you think!
