‘John’ has been a long time coming since the teaser was released over a year ago. It’s about a Christian boy played by Aashir Wajahat who works as a sweeper as many people do in the community. He’s caught in a web of blood, bullets and love where he has to make hard choices.
Also starring are the brilliant Saleem Meiraj and debutantes Raza Samo of the Awesamo Speaks YouTube fame, and TikToker Romaisa Khan.
The film is the latest in a series to come out about Karachi and its various facets and faces. While the plot isn’t immediately clear, it’ll be nice to see a film about the deep underbelly of Karachi that isn’t shown on screen.
‘John’ looks more like an Anurag Kashyap film than any other that’s been produced in Pakistan, but it has its own unique voice. Karachi isn’t Wasseypur, but it has so many of its own stories to tell.
