Amna Ilyas and Junaid Khan Protest Against “Hum Tum Aur Woo”

The Eid Ul Fitr Release “Hum Tum Aur Woo” is now the topic of controversy. Amna Ilyas and Junaid Khan, the two main leads of the film say that they signed on to a telefilm, but now it’s been pushed onto the masses as a theatrical release.

In a joint letter to the Pakistan Film Producers Association (PFPA), the lead actors protested this deception. They had signed up for a telefilm called “Chira Chiri”. However, the producers of “Hum Tum Aur Woo” did more than just change the title.

The lead pair aren’t joining in the promotions of the film as a result.

Recently, it has come to my attention that there are plans to release ‘Hum Tum
Aur Wo’ in cinemas, transitioning it into a format beyond original scope.-Excerpt from the Joint Letter sent to the PFPA by Amna Ilyas and Junaid Khan

The actors even took to social media to show their concern.

Why is This a Big Deal?

Some of you may wonder why pushing a telefilm to the big screen is a big deal. Since Pakistani cinema began anew in 2013, a common criticism levied against certain films is that they “look like dramas”.  It casts aspersions at the capabilities of Pakistani artists and by extension, its film industry.

A release like “Hum Tum Aur Woo” will do more of the same. The equipment used to deliver a film to the big screen is quite different than what is used for dramas. The look and feel of a film like “The Legend of Maula Jatt” is quite different to a drama like “Mere Paas Tum Ho”.

PakistaniCinema.Net’s contacts at the PFPA have condemned this move and have also characterized it as a deception. Keep visiting this dpace for more updates.
