‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has made history in Pakistan by grossing PKR 76 crore in just 21 days, making it the highest-grossing foreign film of all time – beating the lifetime business of ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ – and the second-highest grossing film ever at the Pakistani box office, second only to ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’.
With most cinemas devoting all their shows to the global blockbuster, the web-head is having an unprecedented dream run at the Pakistani box office. No other film in recent memory has ruled the box office quite like this.
Let’s be clear, however, a cinema devoting all its screens to a film is one thing, that film continuing to dominate the box office week after week is another. Pakistan’s family audiences, Millennials, and Gen Z are clearly showing up for the wall-crawler, proving the sheer size and verve of Pakistan’s cinema audience.
Internationally too, the film is racking up humongous numbers. The fourth installment in this iteration of the web-slinger has joined the $2 billion club, with global box office earnings of $2.3 billion.
