Fawad Khan Launches Hunt for the Next Big Scriptwriter

Our revived cinema Industry might be churning out blockbusters in recent times, thanks to hit film formulae, based on commercial entertainers and ever-increasing production values. But it sure hasn’t been able to give some out of the box stories that are able to weave magic on the big screen. Stories that go beyond conventions and break the stereotypes. And that obviously comes with preternatural scripts.

It’s good to see the industry finally taking a note of this and coming forward to address the need. The latest example is Fawad Khan who recently launched The Next Big Story, a platform that aims to provide an opportunity to aspiring content writers to write a script for Fawad’s home production Alteridom Films. The primary aim of the platform according to Fawad is,

“to bridge the gap between writers, directors and producers.”

The event took place at  Ali Auditorium in Lahore and was attended by crème de la crème of the industry like Mahira Khan, Humayun Saeed, Ahmed Ali Butt, Vasay Chaudhry, Asim Raza and Navid Shahzad, who spoke about ingredients of a good script and what they look for while choosing a script.

Fawad Khan talking about this opportunity for the script writers said, “It’s never been a better time to be a writer – or to aspire to become one”, adding, “With the rise of our local cinema along with immense opportunities in global digital cinema, we feel there needs to be a platform for aspiring scriptwriters. This will not only help them break into the industry but will also provide them with a place that will recognize them and help them overcome some of the challenges in content writing.”

The competition will be open for scriptwriters all around Pakistan with the initial phase being submission of synopsis of story electronically and upon being shortlisted the full screenplay. So here’s your chance to work with the mega star and see him play a character you wrote.

On the work front while the “Humsafar” star’s “The Legend of Maula Jatt” awaits to see light of the day, his next project “Money Back Guarantee” has already wrapped its first production phase and is eyeing an Eid-ul-Fitr release next year. While his film with Mahira Khan under his own production is said to be in the scripting phase and is expected to go on floors in first quarter of 2020.
