Kamran Shahid’s newest venture “Huey Tum Ajnabi” has dropped its first trailer and it’s explosive. The story centres on the events of the 1971 war of secession which resulted in the creation of Bangladesh.
The title of the film immediately reminded me of “Who Hamsafar Tha”, a poem penned by Naseer Turabi in the aftermath of the secession of East Pakistan and later made into a fantastic song by Quratulain Baloch.
The film has a star studded cast comprising of familiar faces and veterans ushering roles of some incredible personalities including Samina Peerzada as Indira Gandhi, Adnan Jilani as Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and Mehmood Aslam as Sheikh Mujib Ur Rehman. It also stars Shafqat Cheema, Sadia Khan, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Shamoon Abbasi, Ayesha Omar, Alyy Khan and Sohail Ahmed.
While the primary plot seems to focus on a love story, it occurs at Dhaka University, the site of one of the worst massacres during the 1971 war.
The trailer is filled with shots of fighter jets bombing targets and destroyer ships carrying Mukti Bahini fighters.
While the film seems to be directed for melodrama, it at least seems to delve into the truth rather than simply ask us to move on without any exploration like a certain film did in 2021.
“Huey Tum Ajnabi” will hit theatres on Eid-ul-Fitr.
