‘In Flames’ is Pakistan’s Official Entry to the 96th Oscars

After receiving acclaim at various film festivals including Cannes earlier this year, ‘In Flames’ is now Pakistan’s official entry to the Oscars. The film has been lauded by critics and international audiences for the issues it tackles, as well as its effective use of horror to shine a light on several social evils.

‘In Flames’ is Zarrar Kahn’s big screen debut as a director, as well as for Rameesha Nawal, the lead actress. That they’ve been able to achieve such success with their first big screen feature is a testament to their talent.

At the post-premiere Q&A session for ‘In Flames’, Adnan Shah Tipu had predicted the film would go to the Oscars from Pakistan.

This is the first time a horror film has been sent to the Oscars from Pakistan. Genre films typically aren’t selected as Oscar bait, however, ‘In Flames’ has been made with the finesse that elevated horror deserves.

The selection committee from Pakistan who chose the film included Ahmed Ali Akbar, Bilal Lashari, Fawad Khan, Mehreen Jabbar, Nadia Afghan, Saim Sadiq, and Frieha Altaf.

Please give the film a chance when it plays in a theatre near you. Currently, it’s running in Atrium Cinema, Karachi, until the 31st of October.
